On November 22 to 23, The 2025 Freed to Run Challenge will be happening at the Duval County Courthouse. This 24-hour event supports the Shelter for Elders initiative, providing civil legal aid services to seniors in need of settling housing issues in Northeast Florida. Participants can join as an individual or relay team to run 24 hours, 12 hours, the finish 5k, or the police-escorted bike ride from St. Johns County.
About Freed to Run
Gunster Shareholder Mike Freed started Freed to Run in 2016 to ensure no one has to run alone in their fight for a good bill of health. The initiative started as a six marathons in six days, point to point relay, from Tallahassee to Jacksonville, courthouse to courthouse. Funds raised helped vulnerable, pediatric patients fight necessary legal battles to improve their health outcomes. With the support of the Baptist Health Foundation, Mike Freed's efforts allowed the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, JALA, to provide an endowment of $2.25 million for low-income medical patients.
In 2023, the event transpired into the 24-hour run, additionally raising funds for the Shelter for Elders initiative.
