Commercial Observer recently caught up with Real Property co-chair and land use attorney Brian Seymour for his perspective on Palm Beach County's rapid growth and the challenges developers and communities face in managing it responsibly.
In the interview, Seymour highlighted the importance of collaboration among public entities, state agencies, neighborhoods, and the development community to address infrastructure concerns like traffic, water, and sewer as the region continues to attract a surge of new residents and businesses. He also addressed the tension between development and community resistance, noting that a no-change mentality in some areas makes it difficult to manage existing infrastructure needs—let alone plan for future growth.
Seymour stated, "In all things in life, you’re either moving forward or moving backward. There’s really no stagnant. And so the key is that we all have to talk to each other and work together."
Seymour co-chairs Gunster's Real Property practice and represents clients throughout Florida who need experienced land use and property rights counsel. Since joining the firm out of law school, Brian has represented land owners and developers in matters of land use, zoning, comprehensive planning and environmental resource permitting, as well as eminent domain, land use and constitutional property rights litigation. Committed to his community, Seymour is active in many local organizations, including the Palm Beach County Business Development Board, Chambers of Commerce, the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, and the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. He also served as the vice chair of the Florida Elections Commission and is an active member of Leadership Florida.
