Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is proud to announce that shareholder Jon Philipson has been appointed to the Florida Commission on Ethics by Governor Ron DeSantis. Philipson is one of five members recently appointed by the governor and will serve a two-year term.
Philipson’s appointment reflects his significant commitment to both the legal profession and his community. He currently serves on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida’s Grievance Committee, the Tampa Jewish Community Centers and Federation Board, and the University of Florida Law Alumni Council.
The Florida Commission on Ethics is a nine-member body supported by a staff of approximately twenty-five employees based in Tallahassee. The Commission acts as the guardian of the standards of conduct for officers and employees of Florida and its political subdivisions. As an independent entity, it is responsible for investigating and issuing public reports on complaints of breaches of public trust by public officers and employees. The Commission interprets and applies Florida’s ethics laws by acting on complaints, recommending penalties, and issuing legal opinions through a majority vote.
