This month, the Florida Bar’s Health Law Section spotlight features Bill Dillon, Gunster shareholder and Practice Group Leader for the Regulated Industries and Professions Practice Group. In his conversation with HLS Chair Rupa Lloyd, Bill shares insights from over 28 years of serving Federally Qualified Health Centers, his life outside of the legal field, and insights into the future of health law.
When asked about advice for junior attorneys, Bill emphasizes the importance of understanding your client's business, recalling a formative moment early in his career: "I remember first starting out and doing the typical new lawyer thing of saying 'no' to everything the client wanted to do. The CEO for that client took me aside and said, 'Bill, I know you are just trying to protect us, but at the end of the day, we do actually have to treat these patients.'"
Bill Dillon formerly served as the firm's Tallahassee Office Managing Shareholder and is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in the area of Healthcare law. He is also certified by the Health Care Compliance Association in the area of corporate compliance (CHC) and the International Association of Privacy Professionals as an Information Privacy Professional for the U.S. Section (CIPP/US). Bill focuses his practice on assisting healthcare providers and entities to adhere to the complex regulatory requirements of the healthcare sector. Additionally, he also advises on data privacy and security issues in both the healthcare and non-healthcare sectors.
