Gunster, one of Florida's oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is proud to announce that Keith Sonderling has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as United States Secretary of Labor—assuming leadership of the entire United States Department of Labor (DOL).

Gunster Alumnus Keith Sonderling Confirmed by U.S. Senate as Secretary of Labor

Sonderling has served in an acting capacity since April 2026, following his Senate confirmation as Deputy Secretary of Labor in 2025. Before that, he served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a role he began in 2020. Before entering public service, Sonderling practiced Labor & Employment law at Gunster for nearly a decade.

During a recent visit to Gunster's West Palm Beach office while in town on official business, Sonderling reflected on where his career began: "This firm changed the trajectory of my life. Everything that has happened to me—personally and professionally—goes back to Gunster, including my core understanding of the workforce and my work ethic, both of which I learned here."

As secretary, Sonderling will oversee the full scope of the DOL's mission, including developing and enforcing federal labor and employment laws, leading workforce development initiatives, and shaping the policies that define the future of the American worker.

In July, several Gunster colleagues traveled to Washington, D.C., to attend Sonderling's nomination hearing before the Senate Housing, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee.
