Gunster, one of Florida’s oldest and largest full-service business law firms, is pleased to announce that William J. Schifino, Jr. has been appointed to the Charter Review Advisory Commission for the City of Tampa.
This board of appointed citizens reviews Tampa's City Charter—its constitution—every eight years, and recommends changes to improve how the city government operates, including defining the powers and duties of the Mayor and City Council, the conduct of elections, and the structure of city departments. These recommended changes are then placed on the ballot and approved by Tampa voters before taking effect.
In 2018, Schifino was selected by then-Senate President Joe Negron to serve on the Florida Constitution Revision Commission, one of 37 commissioners responsible for studying and researching the Constitution and making recommendations to revise it.
Schifino is a board-certified specialist in business litigation and serves on Gunster's board of directors. He previously served as president of The Florida Bar and presently serves on the State of Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission. As a member of the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce board, Schifino collaborates with fellow Chamber and local business leaders to shape the policy priorities of the Tampa Bay business community.
