Overview
Megan Moon is a shareholder in Gunster's Jacksonville office. Her practice centers on complex commercial litigation, with a focus on the sports and entertainment industry. Megan regularly litigates for and advises professional sports teams and leagues, entertainment businesses, and media companies, in addition to handling general business and professional contract and tort matters, electronic discovery management, and alternative dispute resolution. Her clients range from Florida’s major professional sports teams to prominent Jacksonville businesses and international corporations.
Megan was named one of Florida Trend's 2025 "Notable Women Leaders in Law" and is a multiple-time honoree in Best Lawyers in America®, a Florida Trend "Up & Comer," and a Florida Super Lawyers "Rising Star." She prides herself on being a high-energy, full-range problem solver who helps clients navigate their most complex and challenging legal issues. To Megan, that means more than courtroom advocacy and legal drafting; it means maintaining a high level of communication and strong relationships with her clients, taking a genuine interest in their businesses and goals, and seeking resolutions that respect and honor those interests.
Megan is a member of Leadership Florida's Connect Class 13 and Leadership Jacksonville's Class of 2019, and she received the Jacksonville Business Journal's "40 Under 40" honor in 2018. In 2026, she became chair of the Florida Bar Association Fourth Circuit Grievance Committee "C."
Outside of the law, Megan is firmly devoted to her family and loves tennis, Jaguars football and reading fiction.
Experience
- Serves as lead trial counsel for a professional sports franchise in a lawsuit by a former player alleging whistleblower retaliation, battery, assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, with claims exceeding $20 million. The case raises issues of first impression under state whistleblower law and the league's collective bargaining agreement. Obtained dismissal with prejudice of all negligence-based claims. The case is proceeding to trial on surviving claims.
- Leads civil litigation arising from the embezzlement of over $20 million from a professional sports franchise by a former employee. Pursued civil theft and fraud claims (with treble damages of up to $66 million) and separate recovery actions against third-party national and international companies. The matters involve complex issues of fraud, internet gambling regulation, banking obligations, and anti-money-laundering compliance.
- Represented an investment company in a dispute over the dissolution of a joint venture involving a $450 million entertainment and mixed-use development project. Leading proceedings regarding the client's right to dissolve the partnership.
- Represented a national retail company in a class action alleging violations of the Florida Telephone Solicitation Act (FTSA), with class damages in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Obtained a first-of-its-kind ruling dismissing the class allegations. Also testified before the Florida Legislature in support of pro-business amendments to the FTSA, which were signed into law in 2023.
- Represented an international supplier and multi-state distributor in a $30 million dispute involving claims of tortious interference, fraud, trademark infringement, unfair competition, and breach of contract, with punitive damages authorized. Litigated the case in federal court through removal, motion practice, and discovery, achieving a confidential settlement.
