On March 16, 2026, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order entitled Establishing the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, gathering at least a dozen federal agencies to serve under task force chair Vice President J.D. Vance to “fight fraud, close loopholes, enforce eligibility rules, and protect benefits for eligible Americans.” Each member of the task force has until June 14 to submit “a measurable implementation plan.”
In addition to the task force, on Tuesday, March 24, the Senate confirmed Colin McDonald to serve as Assistant Attorney General overseeing the newly established National Fraud Enforcement Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
These actions are part of the U.S. government’s emphasis on heightened fraud enforcement. In the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, the U.S. government recovered a record $6.8 billion under the False Claims Act, including over $5.7 billion related to healthcare fraud alone. Recently, the Deputy Assistant Attorney General declared that heightened False Claims Act enforcement is “the new normal” and predicted that this year will be even more robust than the last. The U.S. government has openly stated that it is using enhanced data mining to root out fraud, and the task force will facilitate information and data sharing among its member agencies.
